Upcoming cars debuting in 2023

Being the 5th largest automobile market in the world, every year Indian automobile market witnesses the debut and launch of exciting new cars and facelifts. And these new car launches comes from almost every 2nd car manufacturer in India. These new editions comes in a variety of body types, transmissions and even fuels. And today we will discuss about the upcoming cars to be launched from various body types such as SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks, MPVs, Coupe, Convertibles.


1. Maruti Jimny (SUV): The legendary car, Jimny is finally back with a bang. And with this new gen Jimny expected to be debuting on Jan 15, 2023, it feels like India's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has finally decided to cater to off-roading enthusiasts. The new gen Jimny will be powered by a 1462cc 4-cyllinder engine that will produce 101bhp and 130nm of torque at 6000rpm and 4000rpm respectively. It will be provided with a 5speed manual gear box. And would be offered in its 5-door version. In terms of off-roading and its price range, it will compete against Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. And if we just consider price backet then it will standing against Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Mahindra Bolero, Hyundai Venue, Tata Punch and Kia Sonet. This car is expected to be priced around ₹10lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.

2. Tesla Model S (Sedan): Yes you heard it right. After making quite a buzz in 2022 when Elon Musk announced his proposal and wish to launch Tesla in India. Especially after everyone saw the success of Tesla Automobiles around the world. Tesla Model S is likely to debut in India around May 1st, 2023. This all electric beast is expected to be priced around ₹1.5crore and above ex-showroom New Delhi. It is expected to be launched in India with the same spec and features as the USA market. Meaning that it could be offered in 3 powertrains with the following specs:

  • Long range: 0-100 in 3.1 sec, dual-motor setup and a claimed range of 660km

  • Plaid: 0-100 in 1.99 sec, tri-motor setup with a claimed range of 627km

  • Plaid+: 0-100 in 1.99 sec, tri-motor setup with a claimed range of 837km

The Model S is loaded with the following features: glass roof, 2-wireless smartphone charging pads, 22-speaker 960w audio system, tri-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, 17-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the front and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment in the rear.

3. Hyundai Verna (Sedan): Everyone's favorite mid-size sedan by Hyundai is coming back in a possibly new avatar. Hyundai is possibly going to increase the car's wheelbase. And thus making it longer than the current generation of Verna. And also would be adopting a similar grill design like the new Tucson. This new gen Verna is expected to make its debut in India till 2023 end. And would be offered in the petrol variant with a 4-cylinder 1500cc engine. Almost giving everyone a shock or to some the surprise, it would be offered with a manual gearbox in a time of automatic transmissions. It would cost around ₹10lakh or above ex-showroom New Delhi.

As the Verna is expected to be increased in size. And so is its engine, therefore it might get the bigger 1.4ltr turbo-petrol engine from Creta. Hyundai Verna is expected to be launched around mid April 2023.

4. Tata Altroz EV (Hatchback): By January 2023 mid, the Tata Altroz EV is anticipated to debut in India. A 30.2kWh battery powers a permanent magnet, 127.2bhp electric AC motor. The single-speed gearbox that this device is connected to is said to have a range of 250–300 kilometres.

The EV version of the Altroz is anticipated to get a redesigned lower grille inspired by digital technology, which will give the Altroz EV its distinctive appearance. In addition, it is likely to have new alloy wheels, a reworked air dam, dual ultra-slim headlights, a new teal blue colour, electric blue accents everywhere, and no rear exhaust pipe.

It is anticipated that the Altroz EV's interior will have a contemporary aviation command centre with a seamless cockpit-like concept running throughout. A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and ambient lighting may also be added. Tata states that the Altroz EV can be charged 80% of the way from empty to full in one hour. It is expected to be priced around ₹12 to ₹15lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.

5. Honda WR-V 2023: In India, the next-generation Honda WR-V is anticipated to debut in 2023. The 1.5-liter gasoline engine that will be adjusted to deliver 119bhp and 145 Nm of torque will probably power the Honda WR-V. Both a CVT and a five-speed manual transmission could be used with the powertrain.

The Honda WR-V of 2023 will be an improvement over the existing model and include SUV-like style and design. The LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs and the chrome-stud front grille command attention from the front. While the alloy wheels will get a new look, the front bumper will be reshaped to make room for the new LED fog lamp casing.

Six airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control are anticipated to be part of its safety net (ESP). The cost of the new Honda WR-V when it is introduced in India is anticipated to be between 9 and 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
